You send us the photo(s) via email.
Choose the size of the painting you require. Try your best to find a clear photo. If the artist can see the faces or main object clearly, we can certainly create an artwork of masterpiece quality for you. Send your photos by email, if there is any problem we will contact you straight away. If you don’t have email please post your photo in a hard backed envelope along with a postal order or cheque.
Pay for your order
A 50% deposit is required before painting can commence. You can pay by PayPal, cheque or money order payable to Portraits Ireland (if paying by cheque it will take four days for your cheque to clear).
Special Instructions
Before we start painting please include any special instructions for our artists, we will then adjust your photo i.e. take out background colour, remove marks under eyes etc. Please state if you require your painting to be in landscape or portrait format. We can crop your photo to the required proportions. If you send a photo in landscape it will be painted in landscape format unless you specify that you require it in portrait format. Please see the photo/painting below.

How do you paint the oil painting?
Customers provide the photo and we paint according to it. If there are any special requirements please indicate them and we will confirm them with you before painting (e.g. take out background, remove mark), we paint exactly from your photo. After finishing, we will send a digital image of the painting for your approval. If anything needs to be modified we can correct it.
If I have a group photo but only want one person painted what do I do?
When you send your photograph please indicate which person(s) you require to be painted i.e. from the left hand side third person in. We will then crop your photo and send it back to you for your approval before painting.
Photo Requirements
Please make sure your photo has a high resolution, the better and clearer the photograph the better your painting will be. We can not work from low quality photographs as the detail of the face would make it difficult for our artists. Please take a moment to open your photographs and zoom in on them and if you can’t clearly see the facial features then we won’t be able to either.
Tips
If shooting with a digital camera make sure to put your camera on the highest possible quality setting. Sunlight is good but keep out of direct sunlight this will over expose your photograph.
Look for natural light and neutral background. Always look at what’s behind your subject.
Go closer, most people tend to shoot too far away from the subject.
How long does it take?
It can vary and will depend on the size and number of figures, usually you will have a proof of your painting within 15 days, after this time is allowed for drying before postage. We will inform you at approval stage with an EDD. If you require any changes to your oil painting this can add 4 additional days to your order.
Portrait Care
Keep your portrait out of direct sunlight particularly away from direct beams. Keep dust free, by wiping with a clean dry cloth. Do not use damp or polished cloths.
Do you offer a money back guarantee?
Yes if you are not happy with your painting we will refund your money at the approval stage
